Kennel Operation and description

REQUIREMENTS

At Spencer Boarding Kennel we take every precaution, such as requiring current vaccinations and daily disinfectant cleaning, to prevent illness to our guests. The boarding experience is not much different from a day at school for children. There is always the possibility that a pet may contract a communicable disease any time they are in the presence of other dogs or cats no matter how clean the kennel is kept.

All dogs are required to have current vacations for Rabies, Distemper, (DHLPP),  Parvo, and Bordatella (Kennel Cough).

All cats are required to have current Rabies and Distemper vaccinations, and we strongly suggest that they be immunized against Feline Leukemia, a HIGHLY contagious disease.  We also require that you ask your veterinarian for a printout of your pet’s vaccination record and bring this proof of immunization with you when you check in.

We require that pets be free of fleas.  If pets arrive with fleas, they will be given a flea pill (Capstar), at the Owner’s expense, before they are taken into the kennel area.  We do not have a flea problem and the only way to keep it that way is to check every boarder as they arrive.  We strongly suggest you treat any flea problems prior to boarding. Capstar, a flea product from Novartis, available from your vet, kills fleas quickly and is priced very reasonably.

K-9 KENNEL DESCRIPTION

We provide large blankets and a low step, off the floor bed for each guest in their individual indoor bedroom. These blankets will be changed periodically as needed during your pet’s stay and freshened every evening. All pets have stainless steel buckets and/or bowls with fresh water available all day.

The indoor kennel area is heated for cold months and well ventilated and air-conditioned in the hotter months.  The atmosphere is roomy, bright, cheerful, and clean.  Each indoor kennel also has an outdoor private run.

Soothing music plays gently day and night (until bedtime) in the boarding areas. Favorite TV programs (like Animal Plant) can be viewed during the day hours.

INDIVIDUAL or GROUP PLAY TIMES

All dogs get supervised play periods outdoors beginning at 6 a.m. and ending around 5 p.m.  Breakfast starts at 5:30 a.m. and first potty break is 6 a.m.  If you would prefer your dog NOT be in a play group but would prefer a more individual play time, either alone or with other family K-9 members, please be sure to bring this fact to our attention. Your pet will enjoy toys, games, and splashing around in the wading pool, weather permitting.

SENIOR GUESTS

Senior pets may have stiff joints and visual or hearing limitations. They'll need some extra patience and understanding during boarding.  A little more time or comforting company can mean so much.

We’ll do our best to be sure all senior guests are comfortable and content. The senior pet play group does not engage in rough and tumble play. Regular limited exercise helps keep spirits high and soreness low.

PUPPY OR KITTEN or FIRST TIME GUESTS

The first boarding experience can cause a great deal of stress and fear, or it can be a happy experience. A familiar item or something special from home can make all the difference. We spend extra time to comfort and sooth the first time guest.

FELINE FACILITY

Cats and kittens are boarded in special individual play areas with climbs, resting shelf and lots of toys. Canned and/or dry food can be fed.  Dry food is available at will.  No outside social groups for our feline guests.  However, each pet receives personal lap time, as well as supervised indoor exercise .  Saturday and Sunday are special brunch time with a special serving of tuna or salmon.

EVENINGS

Personal time and cookies (dog bones or kitty treats) are given each evening before bed.  A nightly check is made for full water buckets, every one is content, happy, and tucked in for the night.
